Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work with individuals?

I primarily work with individuals. As a marriage and family therapist, I am trained to work relationally—this means considering how different parts of your life impact you, including partnerships, family relationships, friendships, and more. While I do work with couples and families, I most often work one on one with people, while still maintaining a relational perspective.

What is your rate?

I charge $140 for a 50 minute session. While I have some availability for reduced rate sessions, these spots are often filled.

Do you take insurance?

I am in network with several insurance panels, but this varies by state. If you would like to use insurance this may be an option. I am happy to look up your benefits so we can figure out whether I am in network, if you would have a deductible, and more. In addition, I can accept HSA/FSA, as well as being able to offer superbilling as an out of network provider. This is where I give you an invoice to give to your insurance provider—they might put that cost towards your deductible or provide partial reimbursement. For more information about superbilling, like specifics on how your policy would handle it, I can give you the information you’d need to get a clearer understanding from your insurance provider.

How long do you typically work with clients?

I have had clients who are very satisfied with their progress and chose to wrap up our time together after 6 months, and I’ve had clients who I have been working with for years. There’s a huge variation here, based a lot on what you’re wanting support around and how we choose to work towards those goals.

How often do you meet with your clients?

I prefer to meet with clients weekly or every other week. I strongly prefer that we meet weekly for at least the first few weeks, which helps to build our momentum and connection with each other. I often taper down and meet less frequently as the focus becomes more about maintaining positive shifts.

Where do you meet with clients?

My practice is fully virtual—I meet with clients on Zoom (telehealth).

Do telehealth sessions really work? What about for EMDR?

Telehealth has been shown to be very effective, including for EMDR. During the pandemic I learned a lot (despite my initial concerns) about how to work effectively online, and even though it is no longer a necessity it still works for me (and my clients!). My EMDR training heavily emphasized practicing online, so I am comfortable using those skills over telehealth as well.

How long have you been in the field?

I have been practicing in different settings since 2018, including inpatient and residential. I have been in private practice since 2020.

Do you have a waitlist?

I do not typically keep a waitlist, mainly because I prefer to help you find someone who can see you more quickly than if we have to wait for our availability to align. For folks who feel confident that I’m a great fit and are comfortable waiting, I welcome you to reach back out and can often give a clearer idea of when I might have upcoming availability.

Do you work alone or with a practice?

I am grateful to call the clinicians at Northstar Counseling Center my work family. I have been with Northstar, a Kentucky based private practice, since 2020, and love collaborating with, referring clients to, and getting support from my team.
